Ready, Set, Travel: The Background Story

Skagway, Alaska - July 2001

Ready, Set, Travel: The background behind Lisa & Christina's Three-Month Travel Extravaganza

Born and raised in an airline family, we have been very fortunate to experience many wonderful vacations.  Our Granddad worked for United for 39 years, and our parents worked for Northwest Airlines, with our Mom now serving Delta.  While many vacations would be taken with just our Mom and Dad, several would also be taken with our Granddad and Grandma, who couldn't get enough quality time with their only two granddaughters.  Needless to say, one might say it's in our family's blood to get out and explore.

Through our Granddad's retiree benefits, we have been able to enjoy unlimited flying privileges with United.  With his recent passing in March, these benefits expire in June.  We have decided to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity and travel for the next two and a half months in his memory.  This blog shall serve as a photographic update of our adventures.

Flight loads withstanding (we are flying standby, after all!), our current plan includes:
- Quick trip to Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont
- 1 month in Eastern Europe (Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria)
- 2 weeks in Asia (Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia)
- 1 week in Dubai
- Remaining time spent traveling in North America

In the words of St. Augustine, "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."  Now it's time for us to get "reading" and hit the skies!
